Call for Applications

Nominations:

Nominations should come in the form of a letter of recommendation from a faculty member submitted to the Graduate School along with a cover letter from the department chair (or graduate program director) giving departmental support and indicating that the student is making satisfactory progress towards their degree.

Application Process:

NEW APPLICANTS

  1. Applicants for a Teaching Mentor position are required to attend one of the information sessions listed below:

    Friday, December 4, 2009 9:00 - 10:30 AM 207 Bowne Hall
    Friday, January 22, 2010 10:00-11:00 a.m. 207 Bowne Hall
    Wednesday, January 27, 2010 9:00 - 10:30 AM 207 Bowne Hall
    Thursday, January 28, 2010 2:30 - 4:00 PM 207 Bowne Hall
    Friday, January 29, 2010 3:30 - 5:00 PM 207 Bowne Hall

  2. Applicants must submit the following materials:
    a) The completed application form (available only at the information meetings)
    b) A current CV
    c) A teaching portfolio containing evidence of teaching experience and competence: summaries of student evaluations; exams, quizzes, or assignments constructed by the applicant; syllabus for a recitation session, lab, studio, or class previously taught; a reflective statement about teaching; and any other materials the applicant wishes the selection committee to examine. Applicants may retrieve their portfolios after the selection process is completed.


  3. Interviews of finalists will take place between mid-February and early March. Notification of awards will be in mid-March 2010.

APPLICANTS FOR REAPPOINTMENT

Teaching Mentors who are applying for reappointment are required to:

1) Submit a letter of support from their department chair (or graduate program director)

2) Send a request for reappointment that includes a reflective statement, based on their experience, of the importance of TA Orientation for new TAs

3) A brief CV (with updated contact information)

REAPPOINTMENT APPLICANT DEADLINE:
Friday, January 29, 2010, at 5:00 p.m., 207 Bowne Hall



Notification of awards will begin in Mid-March.
