The program is designed to provide the participants an introduction to the academic and social cultures of US institutions, and facilitate their transition into their placements at higher education institutions across the United States. The orientation will provide:
  • an opportunity for students to gain insight into and begin adjusting to different educational norms and practices;
  • skills necessary to ease their transition into the world of US academic culture;
  • preparation to teach at a US institution of higher education;
  • introduction to latest and best practices in the field of language instruction; and
  • preparation to succeed as a student at a US institution of higher education.

In order to accomplish the aforementioned goals, FLTAs will participate in large-group instructional sessions and small-group workshops. The large group sessions will be presented by SU faculty members who are successful scholars and exceptional teachers. The workshops will be facilitated by experienced and successful graduate student teaching mentors.
