Graduate Student Orientation

All new and returning graduate students are invited to attend Graduate Student Orientation the weekend before classes begin. The event kicks off with a Welcoming Tent on the Quad all day on Thursday where students may obtain parking permits, e-mail addresses, brochures and materials on a variety of activities and services available to them on campus. The Graduate School sponsors a Graduate Student Cafe with refreshments provided free of charge throughout the day in conjunction with information sessions that afternoon on such topics as "Succeeding in Graduate School," "Using the Library for Graduate Research," "Using Computing Services to Enhance Your Graduate Study," "Financial Support for Study and Research" and "Health Insurance Benefits for GAs and RAs."

The weekend continues with open class registration for all matriculated graduate students. New matriculated graduate students and returning matriculated graduate students who did not previously register may register by Web on Saturday and Sunday. Campus computer clusters will be available for use both of those days.

A picnic is held for new graduate students at the Inn Complete (the graduate student club on South Campus) on the Saturday before classes begin in the Fall. This event, sponsored by the Graduate School and the Graduate Student Organization, is an annual favorite.
