Andrews, Joanne M.
Joanne has been with the TA Program since 1999 and is the Assistant Director for Professional Development Programs in the Graduate School. Some of her responsibilities include working with the Teaching Fellows, preparing for the Doctoral Dinner, August Orientation Program, and the Future Professoriate Program. Recently Joanne has become involved with the planning of the All University Fellows' Programming.
Bergamo, Rita
Rita has been with the Graduate School since 1989 and has worked with the Professional Development Programs since the inception of the Future Professoriate Program in 1992. Rita and her husband, Peter, have four daughters and six grandchildren. Both Rita and her husband are Syracuse University graduates. Their youngest daughter, Tricia, is the third generation to graduate from SU. Rita enjoys visiting with her grandchildren, travelling and playing lots of golf. Because she truly missed working with her good colleagues at the Graduate School, the faculty and the students across campus, Rita agreed to come out of her very brief retirement -- which lasted from July through August, 2002 -- to serve as budget coordinator for the TA and Professional Development Programs of the Graduate School.
De Furia, M.L.
M.L. "Peggy" De Furia has long been affiliated with Syracuse University, having completed a B.S. in Pre-Med., an M.S. in Recreation Education and a Ph.D. in Teaching and Curriculum. An Orange Plus Hall of Fame member, Dr. De Furia coached the men's volleyball club since its inception and is the commissioner of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association - Upstate Conference of which Syracuse University is one of twenty-four participating institutions. Peg continues to serve as men's coordinator for the Central Region in the Empire State Games and the Senior Games -- coaching scholastic, open, master's and senior men -- and is the assignor for the CNY Volleyball Officials' Corporation. In addition to her many responsibilities in the Graduate School, Peg performs administrative duties for SU Recreation Services and is an adjunct professor in the Department of Exercise Science. She currently serves as the New York State representative on the Council for Services for the Eastern District Association of AAHPERD. Peggy is an avid bowler, belongs to the "600 Club" and has held a singles title for twenty-five years for the annual Syracuse City Tournament. Her brother, Chuck, still lives in their hometown of Chicago and her sister, Mary, lives in Syracuse. The newest additions to the
De Furia clan are twin black lab/golden retriever mix puppies-Buster Boy and Bailey Bean-gifts from her colleagues at the Graduate School.
Gupta, Nisha
Nisha Gupta is an Associate Director for the Professional Development Programs of the Graduate School. She completed her Ph.D. in Cultural Foundations of Education and Women’s Studies at Syracuse University in 2005. She teaches in the CFE department and the Women's Studies program and served as a Teaching Fellow and a graduate teaching consultant for the TA program. Her research interests are in feminist epistemologies, the multiple conceptions of the idea of multicultural education, and re-imagining of diversity in higher education. These are reflected in how her teaching focuses on enhancing interdisciplinary and multiple teaching/learning styles.
Ioannidis, Dina
Dina Ioannidis started with the TA Program in December 2003 as Office Coordinator. She holds a B.S. Degree in Business Management from Rochester Institute of Technology. Dina manages the daily office routine and activities for the department. She works with the TA Orientation Program, Outstanding TA Award, and several Graduate School events and programs.
Martin, Craig
Craig Martin joined the Graduate School as an Assistant Director of the TA Program after having received his Ph.D. in Religion from Syracuse University in 2007. His research interests concern Christianity and Western thought in general; he has recently written specifically about politics, religion, modernity, and secularization. He works with the TA Program, the Future Professoriate Project, and oversees the Graduate School Press.
Pomeroy, Eileen
Eileen Pomeroy joined the Professional Development Program in October of 2007 as Office Coordinator. She received her Associates Degree in Business Administration from Onondaga Community College in 2001. Lee assists in managing the daily office routines and activities for the department. She also adds support to the various Programs administered by the department.
Samuel, Derina S.
Derina Samuel obtained her B.S. (Biology/Chemistry dual major) and M.S. degree (Chemistry) from the University of Zambia and earned her Ph.D. (Molecular Biology/ Biochemistry) from Syracuse University in 1994. At SU she was awarded an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award in 1991 and also served as a Teaching Fellow for two years. Upon graduating she began a postdoctoral fellowship in Endocrinology at SU. In 1998, she accepted an offer to join the Professional Development Programs of the Graduate School at SU and is currently the Associate Director.
Tice, Stacey Lane
Stacey Lane Tice is an Associate Dean of the Graduate School and Director of the TA Program and Future Professoriate Program at Syracuse University. She earned her Doctoral degree from Syracuse University, a Masters degree in education from Colorado State University in 1985 and a Bachelor's of Science degree from Springfield College in 1980. Stacey is co-editor of "Preparing Graduate Students to Teach" and "University Teaching: A Guide for Graduate Students", as well as several articles related to preparing graduate students for faculty positions.
